Water scarcity is greater in Beijing than parts of the Middle East. Water availability in Beijing is about 2.1 billion cubic meters, but according to the Beijing Water Authority, Beijing’s annual consumption adds up to 3.6 billion cubic meters. The United Nations say that available water per capita in Beijing is just 100 cubic meters, which is lower than the internationally recommended 1000 cubic meters.
